342. The Chemical Industry

Description

To succeed in this topic, you need to:

  • Be familiar with planning and implementing chemical reactions, including recognising hazards and making risk assessment.
  • Be aware that the large-scale synthesis of chemical products requires the availability of raw materials.
  • Be aware of the increasing need to use chemical processes based around environmental and green chemistry.

After working through this Chemistry Factsheet, you will:

  • Be able to describe the range of materials used and produced in the industrial production of chemicals.
  • Be able to outline the considerations required for establishing a new chemical plant or chemical production process.
  • Be able to discuss aspects of industrial, large-scale chemical processes in terms of environment issues and green chemistry.
