253. Postmodernism and the Family

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at postmodernism and the family, exploring what a family is, different types of family and what constitutes a postmodern family. It will explore postmodern theory and research. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

  • Demonstrate your understanding of what a family is as well as different types of family.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of what postmodernism is and what constitutes a postmodern family.
  • Critically evaluate postmodernism.
  • Be confident in incorporating contemporary research and theory into your answers.
