Description

This Psychology Factsheet provides an overview of the origins of psychology, in particular, how the scientific nature of the subject has changed over time. Words in bold are defined in the glossary and the worksheet allows the opportunity to practice what you have learned. Exam Hints and a reference list are included.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

• Clearly define what we mean by the term ‘science’.
• Explain scientific criteria and assess whether psychology can be classed as a science.
• Describe how the origins of modern psychology can be traced back to the work of Wundt in the 1870s.
• Discuss the changing nature of psychology over time, especially over the course of the 20th century.
