The aims of this Media Studies Factsheet are:

  • To understand how the media may interact with and contribute to people’s sense of their identity.
  • To consider how media consumption habits and practices may be part of the display of identity and social interaction with others.
  • To explore how media producers acknowledge the significance of identity in the targeting of media products.
  • To identify areas of the theoretical framework of Media Studies which may be helpful in exploring aspects of the relationship between media audiences and identity.
