Description

This Geography Factsheet compares governance issues in Antarctica, a unique example of a true global commons, with the Arctic where the status of global commons relates only to High Seas jurisdiction. There are contrasting pressure on the two polar areas such as the rate of ice melt, amount of exploitation for resources and tourism with the Antarctic treaty providing a much stronger framework for successful management.
