This Sociology Factsheet will look at whether there is currently a male identity crisis, exploring the media for examples of both male and female representations and whether they point to a male identity crisis, theory, research, and case study. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the Activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

Demonstrate your understanding of the concept of representation, specifically the representation of gender – women and men.
Demonstrate your understanding and knowledge of how to evaluate contemporary representations to decide if there is a male identity crisis.
Be confident in incorporating research, theory, contemporary examples, and case studies in exam responses.
