Hearing is a topic which is partly physics and partly other disciplines. This Physics Factsheet covers the basic physics of sound and the structure of the ear, but also aims to broaden the understanding of the other aspects of human hearing: perception of hearing; frequency response; the concept of “curves of equal loudness across frequency”; the dB unit for loudness and the “phon” unit, which is more commonly used in commercial devices.
