This Geography Factsheet explores the holistic hazard management strategies being developed to manage the high risks from a variety of volcanic and coastal hazards. Over the past 10 years alone, Iceland has had 4 significant but very contrasting volcanic eruptions with lava flows, ash deposition and glacial outburst floods with future risks a strong possibility. The management of these hazard risks are not only vital, but complex too.
