Description

The impacts of footpath trampling are readily observed on urban commons, chalk grasslands, heather uplands, sand dunes and salt marshes. Damage can be measured using simple equipment, and a large quantity of data can be generated for statistical analysis. There are many previous studies on the effects of trampling and these provide a sound background for the development of hypotheses.

This Environmental Studies Factsheet explains:
• Impacts of trampling on vegetation and soil.
• Classification of life forms.
• Recovery.
• Conducting a survey, sampling and recording.
