Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at how influential the British Education System is in the transmission and reproduction of social class, and the debates surrounding this. This Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you achieve maximum marks, while the Activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and develop your skills in this area. Sociology terms in bold are explained in the Glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

  • Identify and discuss factors outside and inside school that may influence individual experiences of school and educational achievement.
  • Construct a debate on whether the education system transmits social class.
  • Be confident in incorporating contemporary research, theory and case studies into your answers.
