This Geography Factsheet briefly examines recent world population change and regional differences, analyses the factors leading to variations in patterns of population change and explores possible global connections using case studies from Canada, Japan, China and Chad. It also explores the potential impacts of demographic change, both deficit and dividend, and the policies used to adjust them, before assessing whether the case study countries are likely to experience a positive demographic dividend or a negative population dividend leading to a deficit.
