This Article answers how slope stability in the tropics is affected through the factors that influence shear stress and shear strength. The article classifies a number of mass movement processes that may occur in the tropics (i.e. fall, slide, flow and heave) and compares the classifications and nature of mass movement processes that occur in the humid and arid tropics. The article gives reasons for the differences and similarities of mass movement processes that occur in the humid and arid tropics (e.g. classifications and nature). Case studies include The Philippines and the Thar Desert.
