255. Who Are the Unemployed in Contemporary UK?

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at who the unemployed are in contemporary UK, explore what work and unemployment are, the impact of work/unemployment on identity as well as analysing statistics and research. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

  • Demonstrate your understanding of what work and unemployment are and, who the unemployed are.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of the impact of unemployment on identity.
  • Demonstrate your ability to analyse statistics and research.
  • Be confident in incorporating contemporary examples and statistics into your answers.
