218. Reliability and Validity

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at what reliability and validity are and will give you a greater understanding of these terms and how to use them appropriately.

The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:
1. Demonstrate your understanding of the terms reliability and validity.
2. Demonstrate your understanding of how to use these terms appropriately in your answers.
3. Use these terms effectively when evaluating sociological studies/theories/concepts.
4. Incorporate these terms into your answers on different topics (not just research methods).
