This Psychology Factsheet is about theories of gender development from a cognitive perspective. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints, and the worksheet gives you the opportunity to apply what you have learned to exam-style questions. Words in bold are explained in the glossary and there is a reference list at the end.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of cognitive psychology.
Demonstrate an understanding of gender development.
Outline and evaluate cognitive explanations of gender development.
Outline and evaluate gender schema theory.
Apply theories to real life scenarios.
Use accurate terminology, such as gender identity, gender labelling, gender stability, gender consistency and gender schema.
