    Introduction

    • Humans experience a range of emotions. But what is emotion? Psychologists refer to it as a state involving three parts - physical, cognitive and behavioural. It is debated which comes first. Theories of emotion deal with this issue.

    • The three components are:

    • Physical - the physiological state that goes along with an emotion.

    • Cognitive - the way we interpret a situation, which determines the specific emotion we feel.

    • Behavioural - the behaviour (fight or flight) or experience produced by an emotional state, shown by outward expression (e.g., facial expression, tone of voice).
