319. Soil Chemistry

Description

To succeed in this topic, you need to:

  • Be familiar with weathering processes and how they lead to physical or chemical alteration.
  • Be familiar with pH, simple acid reactions, and the corrosive properties of acids.
  • Be familiar with simple REDOX processes and changes in oxidation states.

After working through this Chemistry Factsheet, you will:

  • Be able to describe soils in terms of their origin, structure and composition.
  • Be able to describe silicate structures and the replacement of cations through ion-exchange.
  • Be able to describe soil organic matter and related processes maintaining soil nutrients.
