245. Global Crime in Contemporary Society

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at different types of global crimes and the extent to which globalisation has affected criminality across different societies. It lends into greater debates regarding globalisation, postmodernity, crime as a social construct and the function of the criminal justice system. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you demonstrate your knowledge effectively and incorporate creditworthy points into your responses. The Activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and develop your understanding of this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

  • Demonstrate your understanding of what globalisation is and the features of a globalised society.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of globalised crimes.
  • Analyse and evaluate evidence regarding how globalisation has affected criminal behaviour.
  • Apply relevant sociological concepts to show an understanding of the growth in globalised crime.
