234. Social Media and Mental Health

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at social media and mental health, exploring the issues, context and possible reasons for growing mental health problems, with examples, case studies and research. The Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to use contemporary examples, when exploring the topic of social media and mental health when:
• Demonstrating your understanding of mass media within contemporary society.
• Demonstrating your understanding of potential issues linking social media use to weakening mental health in young people.
• Critically evaluating the research and statistics on this topic.
• Incorporating contemporary examples, illustration and case studies in an exam response.
