400. Micro-Power: An examination of micro-hydro, small-scale solar and small wind turbines

Description

This Geo Factsheet examines small scale sources of power – namely micro-hydro schemes, small scale solar and small wind turbines. These sources of energy have huge potential to generate electricity, especially in developing countries. The Factsheet discusses each source in depth and aims to cover the advantages and disadvantages of such approaches. Many of the methods used are implemented in a ‘bottom up’ fashion and so there is some discussion of ‘bottom up’ versus ‘top down’ in this context.
