225. Changing Patterns of Work and Gender Identity

Description

This Sociology Factsheet will look at changing patterns of work and gender identity and explore the concept of identity, how work influences our identity and gender differences, theoretical perspectives and research. This Factsheet is best read in conjunction with Factsheet Number 168 Does the Gender Pay Gap still exist? This Factsheet includes Exam Hints to help you to use your knowledge to gain maximum marks, while the activities give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and will help you develop your skills in this area.

Words in bold are explained in the glossary and a reference list is included at the end of the Factsheet.

The examiner will expect you to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate your understanding of both changing patterns of work and the link to gender identity.
  2. Demonstrate your understanding of the implications of this change.
  3. Critically evaluate research and statistics on this topic.
  4. Be confident in incorporating contemporary examples and illustration in an exam response.
