This Article explores the weathering processes in the humid tropics and the arid tropics and observes why these weathering processes differ. The article looks at the various weathering and soil-forming processes that occur in the humid and arid tropics and why these occur such as the role of moisture, the role of salt, insolation and salt crystal growth. The article includes examples and data from various case studies: Boende, Bahrain, Kano, South-East Asia, duricrusts in Australia, etc.
