  • Psychoanalytical theories are a range of ideas based on the work of

    Sigmund Freud. Freud studied human psychology and behaviour

    and his ideas are still influential in terms of the way we think about

    people’s behaviours and motivations. His ideas have also influenced

    many of the analytical subjects and can be used in a number of

    ways in Film and Media Studies:

    • these ideas can be used to consider the way symbols

    and images are used in media representations;

    • these ideas can be used to evaluate the psychological

    pleasures audiences receive when accessing media products.
